Veteran actor Brian Cox is the latest star to join the talented cast of the Planet of the Apes prequel entitled, Rise of the Apes. The film currently stars James Franco, Freida Pinto, Andy Serkis, and John Lithgow. According to The Wrap, Cox is the newest addition to the 2011 summer blockbuster that will revive the Apes franchise that was last seen in 2001 with Tim Burton and Mark Wahlberg‘s remake.
In the Planet of the Apes prequel, Franco stars as a young scientist who’s working on a cure for Alzheimer’s disease that’s being tested on apes. His main subject is a primate named Caesar who becomes highly evolved at a fast pace and in order to protect him from further testing the scientist moves him into his home.
Cox will star as a cruel and abusive owner of a primate sanctuary. Why is he always cast as the bad guy? Is anyone else having X2: X-Men United William Stryker flashbacks? Rise of the Apes will be directed by Rupert Wyatt and is scheduled to his theaters on June 24th of next year.
