Do you remember when Angie Harmon was the kick-ass chick on “Law & Order“? There was no one better than A.D.A. Abbie Carmichael and when she left the show in 2001 a little part of us died. Since then she’s appeared on several TV shows including “Chuck” and the defunct “Women’s Murder Club,” and she recently revealed that after years in television she was ready to throw in the towel. That was until TNT came calling with a new project, the Cagney & Lacey-esque “Rizzoli & Isles.”
Before landing the lead role in the show Harmon stated,
“We just had another baby and I’ve got three little girls now,” said the Dallas-born star. So my husband and I were going to move out of Los Angeles and go somewhere in the South, where I can raise some strong Southern women with morals, ethics and values.”
Those plans were soon tossed to the wind once TNT gave the actress a ring about a new gig. “Rizzoli & Isles” premieres Monday night and according to several critics shows a lot of promise. Harmon plays a Boston police detective named Jane Rizzoli who teams up with a a medical examiner, Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander), who some of you might know from CBS’ “NCIS.”
Rizzoli is the tough as nails cop and Isles is the girly girl. It’s the whole opposites attract thing but in a platonic way. As for the rest of the cast, you’ll see plenty of familiar faces such as “The Soprano’s” Lorraine Bracco as Rizzoli’s mom (is she old enough for this role?) and Jordan Bridges as her brother.
“Rizzoli & Isles” airs tonight at 10pm on TNT.
