Are you still going through Pandora withdrawal? Is your DVD version of Avatar just not as awesome as the theatrical cut? You’re in luck because after months of promising that the film would return to the big screen, the studio has set a date. Twentieth Century Fox plans on re-releasing the film later this summer and they’ve added even more 3-D footage!

The studio has announced that Avatar will open nationwide in Digital 3D and IMAX 3D theaters on August 27th with over 8 minutes of never before seen material. That 8 minutes doesn’t sound like a lot in the grand scheme of things but who knows what it could entail. Hopefully its from a scene or two that was left on the editing floor from the theatrical cut, not 30 seconds here or there from all over. It would suck if they went that route.

“Since – and largely as of result of – Avatar’s release last December, the number of available digital 3D screens has exploded, and moviegoers who missed experiencing the film in 3D, as well as fans that want to return to Pandora again, will now have that opportunity,” the studio said.

Avatar is currently the highest grossing film of all time with $2.7 billion in worldwide box office receipts.

Are you going to see Avatar when it hits theaters again in August?
