A major shakeup has taken place behind the scenes of the horror sequel Scream 4. Earlier today we reported on the addition of several cast members including Alison Brie and Mary McDonnell and now there’s word that the production staff has been altered. According to STYD, screenwriter and creator Kevin Williamson has left the project and has been replaced by Ehren Kruger!
Apparently, Williamson is busy prepping for season 2 of “The Vampire Diaries” and won’t have a lot of free time to work on the film. In his absence Kruger, who wrote Scream 3 has been brought on to “assist.” Rumors have been running wild as to what will be done with the script that Williamson originally turned in.
Some say that there will be a complete overhaul and certain characters will be changed dramatically, like Hayden Panettiere’s. She’s supposed to play the nerdy best friend of Emma Roberts but there are some reports that her role has been “dumbed down significantly.”
What the hell’s going on? I know a lot of people didn’t like Scream 3 but I did — as a comedy. Williamson created these characters and he knows them well, if he penned a draft for the new film they should stick to it. Also, Kruger isn’t the most trustworthy scribe. Don’t forget about his amazing work on Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, The Ring Two, and the oldie but goodie Reindeer Games (sarcasm)?
What do you think of Kruger coming in to work on Scream 4?
