The Starz cable network has just killed off two of their shows, “Gravity” and the beloved “Party Down“. The latter of the two centered on a group of struggling actors in Los Angeles who worked in the catering business to make ends meet. It was co-created by Paul Rudd and Rob Thomas and gained cult status over its two year run. Unfortunately, after losing several key castmembers and crappy ratings the show’s been officially cut.

The president of Starz programming, Stephan Shelanski released a statement regarding the network’s decision to pull the plug on both shows.

“After careful consideration, we’ve decided not to continue on with subsequent seasons of Party Down and Gravity. We’re grateful to everyone involved in the shows, and are proud to have had them on the channel. Starz remains committed to aggressively expanding our original programming lineup.”

We saw this coming a mile away. Besides the bad ratings, the show lost Jane Lynch to Fox’s super-hit “Glee“, and this season Adam Scott left to work on NBC’s “Parks and Recreation“. Those are two major blows to the series’ core and it was obvious that they would have a hard time restructuring after that.

“Party Down” was a diamond in the rough. It was funny and refreshing and featured the kick-ass talents of Lizzy Caplan, Martin Starr, and Ken Marino just to name a few. Why do the good ones always die so young?

What do you think of Starz decision to cancel Party Down? Are you a fan of the show?
