Robin Williams Wants To Be The Riddler in Batman 3
By Krystal Clark
Robin Williams is a talented Oscar winning actor and comedian who’s tackled every role under the sun. Lately he’s had the yearning to play an iconic character in one of the most anticipated sequels of the decade. According to a recent interview, he wants to appear in Christopher Nolan’s Batman 3 as none other than The Riddler (previously played by Jim Carrey in Batman Forever). Dammit Williams, aren’t you about 20 years too late for this?
While speaking to the UK’s Empire Magazine, Williams expressed his serious interest in playing ANY role in the next Batman no matter how big or small.
“I’d play The Riddler in the next Batman, although it would be hard to top Heath [Ledger] as the villain, and I’m a little hairy for tights. I’m using this article as an ad. Chris, call me, I’ll do anything. I could be a great character – or some weird little man in the background in Arkham Asylum.”
Williams worked with Nolan in the thriller Insomnia back in 2002 and would love to collaborate with him again. I don’t know about him playing The Riddler but it would be cool to see him pop up as “Lunatic #3″ in Arkham.
Who makes the best Riddler?
All jokes aside, do you think Robin Williams would make a good Riddler?

If he were in ONE HOUR PHOTO mode, sure!
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 3:09PM
Robin Williams can do a good creep and is also kinda funny so he might be good, but I would like to see David Cross play The Riddler! Especially if it was a revival of the campy 60's Batman.

Maybe he could play the calender man, like in Batman: The Long Halloween. He could dp that role perfectly.
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 3:13PM
Robin Williams is in my opinion, capable of any role that he choses to do, just look back at "Mrs. Doubtfire".
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 3:14PM
That would take a hell-of-a-lot of make-up and special effects….bet he would be awesome as Dr. Death though, an old-school Batman villain.
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 3:25PM
Johnny Depp would be good as the Riddler but maybe he has used up his roles like that. Getting old.
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 3:27PM
Pt 2 Robin Williams would make a great Riddler, I think he can make him look pretty crazy and give the Riddler life as Heath did with Joker.
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 3:28PM
Oh, he'd be great!
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 3:29PM
Yeah, One Hour Photo had lasting effects on my photography habits. Thank god for cell phone cams. He could nail it, but I do think he's a bit old for the role. I'd love to see him in the movie, though, especially if he was Rourked up in an asylum and I couldn't tell it was him! It'd be like where's waldo with crazy people. As long as you find him, maybe he won't stab ya!
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 3:37PM
One Hour Photo is the best creepiest movie ever. I just saw your performance on Law and Order again. You are very funny in your films but creepy is what you do best. I hope you get the part.
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 3:38PM
I think he would make a great Riddler, being that the character was a malcontent scienctific genius. Robin Williams would be great because when is the bad guy, he can play a really sarcastic person doing really bad things with his steady stream of conscious dialogue, it comes out really twisted but yet innocent. Although somewhat older than the late Heath Ledger, his character could be someone released from Arkum who predated the Dark Knight as a person and got the personae of the Riddler as something that took over his psychie..(sorry for any mispelling, I can't type very well)
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 3:41PM
He would rock that role!
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 3:51PM
I think he would devour the role as Riddler. He has that perfect mix of creepy yet witty that would really work for the Riddler. I hope they consider him.
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 3:52PM
I love how you are talking to Williams directly like he wrote this article.
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 3:58PM
He wanted to play the Joker in Batman 2 also. Damnit Chris! Put that man in a Batman movie. I guarantee Ledger would still be alive if Williams played the Joker, Ledger just didn't have the right mental circuitry to play the Joker like that.
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 4:02PM
I think he would be ok – but who would be better…
Daniel Day Lewis in his Bill the Butcher mode – that would be a riddler to be afraid of.
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 4:26PM
Robin Williams is by far one of my favorite actors, and there is no doubt in my mind he would do an awesome job.
But I picture him better in one of these roles…the Mad Hatter or the Ventriloquist/Scarface ?
………………..and just for giggles…..let Jim Carrey take another stab at the Riddler (creepy.. like in 23).
Imagine the mayham!!!Robin Williams AND Jim Carrey.
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 4:30PM
Yea, good call! That would be excellent!!
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 4:57PM
johnny depp for the riddler. he has unlimited expressions and a natuiral talent to play any character possible. add another masterful role to his list. johnny depp all the way, robin williams is to old and is getting fat anyways haha. he is one of my favorite actors of all time but just not this role.
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 5:10PM
I head Viggo Mortenson (aka aragorne from lord of the rings) will be considered as the riddler.
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 5:21PM
i think it would be fantastic if Michael Keaton would play the Riddler in Batman 3. He could finally return to the franchise and the two greatest batmans would do battle in the movie. The torch would officially be passed to Bale. If not Keaton, give Jim Carrey another try. Carrey can play serious roles too.
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 5:24PM
Robins Williams would not be a good Riddler, he would be "The Riddler". He's got what it takes, and it doesn't matter if he's 85. We LOVE YOU ROBIN!!!! Riddle their damn brains out!!
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 5:27PM
I hope he does too! He'll have the theaters packed!
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 5:44PM
If you think about Robin's body of work he has shown all the tools necessary to play the role. We all know he's a very funny and can bring comedy and darkness to the role (both are absolutely necessary for Riddler.) Williams also has great wit and can think on his feet as evidenced by his stand up. As Edward is, IMO, the only Batman Rogue that could be smarter than he is, these characteristics would prove an asset if Mr. Nolan decides to go for a darker more cerebral Riddler (which he should instead of that Carrey debacle.) The only thing hurting Williams is his age and height, but those things are easily remedied with a little Hollywood magic.
If Robin doesn't get it, Nolan better pull Edward out of DC's comics because that's what it will take to top him. Also: If you give the Riddler another spandex suit, I will hunt you down! The classic green three piece with the question mark tie and bowler hat is the way to go.
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 5:54PM
Oh man, heck yeah he would make an awesome Riddler. Too old ? Nah, that is what makeup is for… Go Robin!
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 6:38PM
ANYTHING BUT ROBIN WILLIAMS. PLEASE, put Johnny Depp instead. At least something a bit more decent and attractive to stare at for 2 hours.
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 7:18PM
good idea him as the riddler
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 7:40PM
Hell Yeah Jim Carrey!
He's Still got it in him.
Or Johnny Depp too!
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 7:42PM
Great idea! Would love to see it happen for either of the two.
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 7:42PM
I'm sure that Robin Williams would make a great Batman villain but perhaps not the Riddler – Clay Face maybe ? For some strange reason I think perhaps Hugh Lawrie or David Hyde Pierce would make great Riddlers.
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 7:47PM
I think Robin Williams would be GREAT as the Riddler. He can play any role. He maybe alittle older but I know he can pull it off. Chris call him already.
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 8:52PM
why are people saying that he would be to old for the role. First off, you would need to be old in order become that mad of a person in the first place in order for it to be believable. I think the older the person is, the better because it adds that ingredient of "wow this person must have been tortured for a very long time and now he's just at his end". Plus Robin Williams isn't even that old, he's like 60 or something. Old is 80.
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 9:28PM
Wow, that never crossed my mind. He definitely has the chops to pull it off but would want to do it? I doubt it!
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 9:45PM
No way…Jude Law as the Riddler….has anybody seen the road to perdition…he looks like the riddler in that flick….keaton would be cool too..
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 9:52PM
i think a good riddler would be marshall mathers aka eminem,
he's a pretty good actor, he can rap/rhyme his riddles, plus he has that certain quality of anger and hatrid in his voice,
not to mention a foloing of 10 billion die hard fans to bring to the theatres
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 9:53PM
he needs to spend time with his family and stay the hell off drugs……FORGET BATMAN…. do a mrs. doubtfire redux part two……now that is worth his time and attention.
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 10:05PM
What a Riddler! I have seen him come loose and just go crazy. He'd be GREAT!
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 10:05PM
Pleasee if theres still a chance cast williams!
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 10:25PM
He would be perfect… He has so-o-o much talent. He can play anything and has proved it in the past. Forget ageism!!!
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 11:01PM
outstanding! daniel day lewis as the riddler? i never thought about him, awesome
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 11:03PM
I would love to see Robin Williams play the Riddler. He's so funny but he can play great dramatic parts too.Its so strange, so many people think of Jim Carey as the riddler, but I think of the ;late Frank Gorshen. He was wonderful in this role….way before Jim CareyLet Robin show the young people what a versatile actor really is!
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 11:06PM
Johnny Depp. the guy is amazing actor
Wednesday, June 30, 2010 6:25AM
yeah that would be awesome him as the ridler Jim Carrey got away with it why not Robin Williams?
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 11:49PM
This was something he was rumored to have been offered when Tim Burton was helming the first two Batman films. They supposedly used the idea of Williams as Riddler to lure Jack Nicholson in for the first fllm
He could do a version of the Riddler, not the Gorshen version, but perhapsthe BTAS serius with the bowler hat. But what is Riddler's edge? What is his angst?
Wednesday, June 30, 2010 12:43AM
Old is 90,95
Wednesday, June 30, 2010 6:09AM
ABSOLUTELY, ROBIN WILLIAMS WOULD MAKE A GREAT RIDDLER. HE CAN BE FUNNY, SERIOUS, EVIL, CRAZY, YOU NAME IT. HE IS SO HYPER, HE COULD PLAY ANY CHARACTER YOU PUT IN FRONT OF HIM. COME ON GIVE HIM A CHANCE.
Wednesday, June 30, 2010 6:38AM
wound't he make a better old ROBIN. after all that is his name and at his age he wouldn't have a problem remebering who they are talking to when thay call out the characters name on set. Just joking.
Wednesday, June 30, 2010 9:37AM
Robin Williams would be ideally suited for the role as the Penguin!!!!
Thursday, July 8, 2010 12:43AM
Considering Batman Begins and The Dark Knight took the Batman franchise to a much darker theme, they would need someone who can bring a serious yet twisted persona to the Riddler, and that someone should be Robin Williams.
