Just yesterday we brought you the first poster for Gore Verbinski’s animated film, Rango. It featured the title character, a chameleon who’s voiced by Johnny Depp. At first, the whole idea of Depp playing an inept creature being released into the wild seemed generic and uninspiring but this new trailer has changed my mind. The film centers on a chameleon who’s going through an identity crisis and embarks on a cross-country journey where he ends up in the dangerous SouthWest territory. Instead of the animals being portrayed as creatures in the wild they’re given human characteristics, a cowboy/mariachi wardrobe, and a Western genre vibe.

The voice cast for Rango includes, Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin, Alfred Molina, Bill Nighy, Harry Dean Stanton, Ray Winstone, and Timothy Olyphant. It looks like Gorbinski really went and picked from his Pirates of the Caribbean stash to get some of these stars on board (I’m looking at you Depp and Nihy).

Rango is scheduled to hit theaters on March 4, 2011.
