A few days ago there was a rumor that Don Cheadle and Freida Pinto were offered roles in 20th Century Fox’s upcoming prequel, Rise of the Apes and it turns out it was partially true. According to THR, the Slumdog Millionaire actress has officially signed on for the film alongside James Franco and fellow newcomer John Lithgow.
In the Planet of the Apes prequel, Franco stars as a young scientist who’s working on a cure for Alzheimer’s disease that’s being tested on apes. His main subject is a primate named Caesar who becomes highly evolved at a fast pace and in order to protect him from further testing the scientist moves him into his home.
Pinto will star as the female lead, a primatologist, while Lithgow will appear as Franco’s Alzheimer’s stricken father. The film is being directed by Rupert Wyatt and is scheduled to begin production this summer in British Columbia.
Both Lithgow and Pinto have been busy over the past two years. After appearing in the Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire, Pinto is currently filming the Greek epic Immortals, which she’ll follow up with Apes. Lithgow on the other hand, has experienced a resurgence in his career after appearing on Showtime’s “Dexter” as a serial killer, a role that earned him a Golden Globe earlier this year.
What do you think of the cast so far?
