The third season of “True Blood” just began and HBO has already renewed it for a fourth. This shouldn’t come as a surprise considering the big numbers its June 13th premiere brought in, and the positive fan response to the second episode “Beautifully Broken.” There’s plenty of material left in Charlaine Harris book series (from which the show is based) to explore so get ready to see more slutty, vampy, wolfy action…
HBO Programming President Michael Lombardo, just announced that the network has picked up another 12 episode order of the series. Season 4 is scheduled to debut during the summer of 2011 and production will begin early next year in Los Angeles. The show’s popularity has grown significantly over the past two years and it’s become one of the network’s most watched programs.
When creator Alan Ball heard the renewal news he was ecstatic and said, “I am beyond thrilled to be able to continue working with this amazing cast and crew. This is the most fun I have ever had.”
We’re not surprised that “True Blood” has taken off like it has. Besides Hollywood’s obsession with vampires, the growing popularity of co-star Alexander Skarsgard could also be a factor. The extremely slow build between his character Eric Northman and the series heroine Sookie Stackhouse is one of the biggest reasons people are watching. The sexual tension between those two is so thick you could cut it with a… fang!
What do you think of HBO’s decision to renew True Blood for a fourth season? Do you plan on watching?
