Are you ready to hear Eric Nothman aka Alexander Skarsgard shout, “You sunk my battleship?!” The “True Blood” star has been tapped for a role in the feature adaptation of the board game, Battleship. The film is directed by Peter Berg (Hancock) and already includes “Friday Night Lights‘” Taylor Kitsch as the lead actor. Find out more about his character…
According to Heatvision, Skarsgard will play Kitsch’s older, straight-laced naval officer brother whom he idolizes. It sounds like Berg might have seen Skarsgard’s awesome performance in the HBO mini-series, Generation Kill because this character sounds right up his ally. This will mark the actor’s first English-language studio film. He previously auditioned for the role of Thor, but when it got down to the wire the part eventually went to Australian native, Chris Hemsworth.
When Universal announced that they were producing a film based on the Battleship game, I literally laughed out loud. But now that Skarsgard is on board they may have found a way to suck me in. He does such a great job on “True Blood” that I’d love to see what type of energy he will bring to the big screen.
Battleship begins production on August 30th and is scheduled for a June 18, 2012 release.
What do you think about Skarsgard joining the cast of Battleship? Does it make you want to see the movie?
