Over the past few weeks there’s been speculation regarding Steven Spielberg’s latest project, War Horse. There were rumors that British actor Eddie Redmayne had landed the lead, and Tom Hiddleston and Stephen Graham were in negotiations to co-star. Empire is reporting that the assumptions were partially true with Hiddleston and Graham but Redmayne not so much. Check out the full cast for War Horse

The film centers on Albert, a young man who forms a life long friendship with a horse named Joey. The story takes place during World War I and follows Albert on his journey to save Joey after he’s been picked up by the cavalry and sent to the trenches of war.

Redmayne was speculated to play the young boy, (a casting I highly disagreed with because of his age) but the role was filled by Jeremy Irvine instead. Emily Watson and Peter Mullan will play his parents, while Benedict Cumberbatch will star as a military man named Major Stewart.

The rest of the cast includes Niels Arestrup as the grandfather of a young French girl (Celine Buckens) who takes Joey in, plus Nicolas Bro, David Kross, Leonard Carow, Rainer Bock, Robert Emms and Patrick Kennedy. Hiddleston and Graham are currently in talks to play Captain Nicholas and Sargent Sam Perkins.

War Horse is scheduled to start shooting in August.
