Earlier this spring it was announced that Clint Eastwood would be directing a biopic based on the infamous, J. Edgar Hoover. Shortly after the film was confirmed, speculation sprung up that Leonardo DiCaprio was in talks to play the FBI figurehead and now according to a report from Deadline his casting has been confirmed!

A source close to the production told the site that DiCaprio is “going to spread his wings,” in the Hoover biopic. The film will be produced by Brian Grazer and has a script written by Oscar winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (Milk). The story will cover Hoover’s reign as the head of the FBI from its creation in 1935 to his death in 1972. Production on the film is expected to start sometime later this year.

DiCaprio seems to be on a creative roll. He’s starting to get Oscar buzz for his performance in this summer’s Inception and is making his first film with veteran actor and director Clint Eastwood. Besides his multiple movies with Martin Scorsese, he’s worked with Ridley Scott, Sam Mendes, Ed Zwick, and Christopher Nolan and that’s just within the last 5 years. Who’s next?!

What do you think of DiCaprio starring as J. Edgar Hoover? Do you think he can pull it off?
