Director Rob Reiner has Flipped from A-listers and The Bucket List to a sweet PG coming-of-age story with a bunch of fresh faces. Normally when I hear “coming-of-age story” and I run for the nearest theater with some sex and blood splatter, but Rob Reiner does have a certain way of telling stories that not only rings true with viewers but also leaves a lasting impressions (i.e. The Princess Bride, Spinal Tap, When Harry Met Sally).

Producing the film is Alan Greisman who worked with Reiner on The Bucket List and Alex and Emma, hopefully this film is more of a Stand By Me than the first two films mentioned, but seeing as Gresinman has Soapdish under his belt I’m not too worried.

Flipped is based oft the novel by Wendelin Van Draanen and stars Madeline Carroll, Callan McAuliffe, Rebecca De Mornay, Anthony Edwards, John Mahoney, Penelope Ann Miller, Aidan Quinn and Kevin Weisman.

When second-graders Bryce and Juli first meet, Juli knows it’s love. But Bryce isn’t so sure. Girl-phobic and easily embarrassed, young Bryce does everything he can to keep his outspoken wannabe girlfriend at arm’s length… for the next six years, which isn’t easy since they go to the same school and live across the street from each other. But if Juli finally looks away, will it be Bryce’s turn to be dazzled? “Flipped” takes Bryce and Juli from grade school to junior high, through triumph and disaster, family drama and first love, as they make the discoveries that will define who they are – and who they are to each other.

Flipped will be in theatres on August 6 (Limited), August 27 (Wide)
