It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the remake of the cult classic, The Monster Squad. Back in March it was announced that Rob Cohen would direct it but beyond that there hadn’t been any new developments. Therefore we blocked it out of our minds and convinced ourselves it wasn’t happening but unfortunately the project’s still going strong and Paramount has just hired a pair of writers to take on the script.

According to HeatVision, screenwriting cousins Mark and Brian Gunn will tackle the story for the new Monster Squad. The 1987 original used a script co-written by director Fred Dekker and Shane Black that centered on a group of kids who discover a plot by Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, The Gill Man and The Mummy to try and take over the world.

Cohen will not only direct the remake but he’ll also produce alongside Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller of Platinum Dunes. It seems like Platinum Dunes has a hand in almost every contemporary horror remake. They did The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, and the new A Nightmare on Elm Street. Now they’ve decided to rape all the classic horror icons at once by doing The Monster Squad. When will this madness end?
