Jennifer Garner wasn’t the star of Juno, but she played one of the creepiest high-maintenance characters we’ve ever seen, an experience that will undoubtedly help her with her next role. According to THR, Garner and Nick Nolte have joined the cast of Arthur, the remake of the 1981 comedy (of the same name) that currently stars Russell Brand, Helen Mirren and Greta Gerwig.
The film is directed by “Modern Family‘s” Jason Winer and will follow a wealthy drunk named Arthur (Brand) who risks his large trust fund to be with someone his mother doesn’t approve of — a poor girl (Gerwig). He’s pushed to marry Garner’s character, an heiress with a very religious father, played by Nolte.
This movie has big shoes to fill. No one can replace Dudley Moore’s signature laugh! Plus the original was a critical success with four Oscar nominations under its belt.
Mirren’s presence is what saves this from being just another remake. She’s such a great actress who will bring more than her fair share of talent to the screen. On the other hand, Brand is questionable as the lead. Get Him to the Greek was funny, but he doesn’t have the chops to back this cult classic up. Sure he’s an entertaining person but as an actor he has yet to prove himself.
