The cast of Captain America: The First Avenger continues to grow and it’s getting some major acting cred with its latest addition. Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci has signed on to star in a supporting role as Dr. Abraham Erskine. Marvel just announced the big news today so get ready to see Tucci go toe to toe with Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, and Sebastian Stan. Find out more about his character below…
In the comics, Dr. Abraham Erskine is the scientist responsible for Captain America’s creation. He was the man behind Project Rebirth, the secret experiment that created the hero. He was also of German decent so we wonder if Tucci will put on a thick accent for the role? The majority of Captain America’s production will be filmed this summer in Europe, which makes sense because of the story’s WWII backdrop.
Besides Tucci, there have been rumors that Tommy Lee Jones and Neal McDonough are also on board with the film. Jones’ is said to play General Chester Phillips, while McDonough has been speculated to portray Nick Fury’s buddy, Dum Dum Dugan.
Captain America: The First Avenger will be directed by Joe Johnston and is scheduled to hit theaters on July 22, 2011.
