If you’re still fuming over the travesty that was X-Men 3: The Last Stand, director Brett Ratner isn’t done raping your childhood just yet. It seems that the success of Disney’s reimagined Alice in Wonderland has caused a domino effect that has people wanting to see darker incarnations of their favorite characters. So who’s the next victim on the list? Snow White!
I’ll admit Snow White has never been one of my favorite stories because she bored be to tears but that was her shtick. She was pure and innocent and all that jazz. According to Deadline, Ratner wants to take that cool and calm demeanor and step it up a notch.
Relativity Media has recently acquired a new take on Snow White and Ratner is on board as one of its executive producers. The screenplay has been written by Melisa Wallack and is a 3D adaptation of the fabled character.
“This is not your grandfather’s Snow White,” Ratner said. “Melisa went back to the 500 year old folk tale and put in some of the things that were missing from Walt Disney’s film. His dwarves were miners, and here they are robbers. There is also a dragon that was in the original folk tale. Walt made one of the great movies of all time, but ours is edgy and there is more comedy. The original, made for its time, was soft compared to what we’re going to do.”
The Seven Dwarves sound like gang members who shouldn’t be trusted. If that’s the case, I don’t even want to know what’s going to happen when they stumble upon Snow White. Also, will she be a punk rock chick or will this version still take place in a land far, far away?
What do you think of Ratner’s concept for the new Snow White?
