A new trailer has been released for Dinner for Schmucks and someone in the editing department has worked some magic because it actually looks funny. The first trailer was extremely boring and middle of the road but this one has spunk, which might have a little something to do with Jemaine Clement (“Flight of the Conchords”) making an appearance…
Dinner for Schmucks is a U.S. adaptation of the 1998 French film Le diner de cons (The Dinner Game), which was written and directed by Francis Veber. Schmucks stars Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, Bruce Greenwood, Ron Livingston, and Zach Galifianakis.
The original story centered on a wealthy man and his friends who have weekly competitions where they attend a dinner party and bring the dumbest person they kind find as their guest. Here it looks like Rudd is playing an Average Joe who wants to join an elite social society. And if I’m not mistaken the actual party took up the majority of the French film but here there are a lot of outside additions made. We’re not sure how that will sit with die hard fans.
Dinner for Schmucks will debut in theaters on July 23, 2010.
