Award winning actress and writer Tina Fey has been chosen as the recipient of this year’s Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. It’s one of the nation’s most prestigious honors that can be bestowed upon someone within the comedy genre. Between “30 Rock” and Date Night it looks like Fey got the stuffy suits on the voting board to take notice.
According to Reuters, Fey is only the third woman to have won the honor in 13 years, after Lily Tomlin and Whoopi Goldberg. Really? That’s such a shame because there are a lot of funny ladies out there who don’t get nearly as much credit as they should. The Mark Twain Prize, was established in 1998 and recognizes people who have had an impact on society comparable to the 19th century satirist and writer for which the award was named.
Fey can add this honor to her overflowing trophy case that already includes six Emmys and two Golden Globes. It sounds like she’s going for domination within the world of entertainment and as long as she keeps up the quality of her material we’re behind her 100 percent. Congrats Tina!
Fey will be presented with the award on November 13th amongst her comedic peers.
