Where has Orlando Bloom been over the past few years? After the hype of the last Pirates of the Caribbean he did some stage work and appeared in some smaller films but we haven’t seen him in anything on a grand scale in a while. Perhaps, that’s why the actor has decided to sign on to Paul WS Anderson’s The Three Musketeers adaptation (in 3D), which already features a cast full of international actors.
The current roster for The Three Musketeers includes Christoph Waltz, Milla Jovovich, Mads Mikkelsen, Ray Stevenson, Matthew Macfadyen, Luke Evans, and Logan Lerman. Lerman will star as D’Artagnan; Stevenson, Evans, and Macfadyen will play the famous Porthos, Athos and Aramis, while Waltz and Mikkelsen will portray the villains Cardinal Richelieu and Rochefort and Jovovich will star as Milady de Winter, a former love of Athos.
An offer had went out to Bloom to play the role of the Duke of Buckingham, and he has officially accepted! It will be interesting to see him dressed from head to toe in an old school costume again. Let’s be honest, Bloom does his best work in period pieces.
The story of The Three Musketeers centers on D’Artagnan, a young man who leaves home to become a member of the fighting force of the French king’s royal household. Along the way, he makes friends with three of the force’s best — and most disgraced — members: Athos, Porthos and Aramis, whose creed of friendship is “All for one and one for all!” The story was published in 1844 and written by Alexandre Dumas.
