Are you ready for Jack Sparrow to get all multidimensional on your ass?! According to a recent report from Deadline, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will follow in the footsteps of every major tentpole being released at the moment, it will be shot in glorious 3D (rolls eyes). Is there anyone out there who’s genuinely surprised by this decision? *Crickets.* We didn’t think so.

According to the site, Disney Studios Chairman Rich Ross just finalized the deal to shoot Pirates 4 in Disney Digital 3D. Since this announcement was made before they delved heavily into production it won’t affect the film’s release date, which has been set for May 20, 2011. This isn’t a shocking move by the studio considering the last 3D blockbuster they produced with Johnny Depp in the lead (Alice in Wonderland) grossed $980,533,915 dollars worldwide.

Even though 3D has become a permanent thorn in our sides, we’re happy that this film will actually be shot with 3D cameras as opposed to being converted later on. The last few films that have gone through the conversion process have looked horrible. No one wants to see Jack Sparrow two shades too dark with a blurry afterglow. If you’re going to do 3D, do it right!

What do you think about Disney’s decision to produce Pirates of the Caribbean 4 in 3D? Are you surprised?
