Is Disney planning on re-releasing Enchanted in theaters sometime soon? The last time we checked that was a pretty decent version of the Cinderella story but apparently they want more. According to Deadline, the studio is looking to produce a live action adaptation of the fairytale that’s been retold countless times in animation, on stage, on TV, and of course in movies.

Aline Brosh McKenna will tackle the screenplay for the new film, which Disney has set up as a 7-figure pitch deal. McKenna was the scribe behind The Devil Wears Prada (loved it!) and 27 Dresses (shutter), and now she’s trying to work her magic on one of the most beloved children’s stories of all time. We can thank the monumental success of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland for the studio’s interest in remaking the classic.

Not to rain on their parade but McKenna’s work is hit or miss. She could write something funny, sweet, and compelling or she could produce a script filled with cliched dialogue and dated gimmicks (27 Dresses). This story has been rewritten so many times from various perspectives so it will be hard for her to come up with an original plan of attack. Even Alice in Wonderland combined two stories to so that it could stand out. What could they possibly do here?

Disney previously released an animated version of Cinderella back in 1950, which is still one of their most popular films to date.

Do you think Disney should make a live action version of Cinderella?
