After 20 years on air NBC may have finally dropped the axe on their long-running drama, “Law & Orderaka “The Originator.” News has spread like wildfire after Deadline published a report that the network didn’t renew the show for another season and the latest update claims that Dick Wolf Productions won’t be continuing the show with them.

The “Law & Order” story is still under development but sources are saying that Dick Wolf himself is very angry at the network because NBCU chief Jeff Zucker and other studio heads were privately saying that the show would return for at least one more season. The network refuses to comment on the matter.

If they do pull the plug on “Law & Order” they’re cutting it a year short of its record breaking 21st season leaving it tied with “Gunsmoke” as the longest running drama in primetime history. There’s still hope that Wolf could shop the series to another network (preferably cable) like TNT who picked up his other incarnate “Law & Order: Criminal Intent.”

This also isn’t the end of Wolf’s relationship with NBC because he still has “Special Victims Unit,” which is a lock to return next season and the new West Coast spin-off  Law & Order: Los Angeles.

Do you think NBC should or shouldn’t cancel Law & Order? Do you think they’ll finally let it go?
