Tim Robbins and James Gandolfini join Diane Lane in HBO Films’ Cinema Verite. The film which was written by David Seltzer shows a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the groundbreaking documentary “An American Family.” The film is being directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini and produced by Gavin Polone and Zanne Devine.

In the film, Robbins and Lane will play parents Bill and Pat Loud, respectively. The Loud’s split during filming of the documentary. The film centers around them and their children, the eldest of whom, son Lance, became TV’s first openly gay character, that in itself could get a documentary. Gandolfini will portray the documentary producer Craig Gilbert in the film.

Seasoned actors Robbins and Gandolfini only bring more depth to the film. Ex-Sopranos star Gandolfini is back “home” with HBO with this film. The Italian mobster has been keeping busy. He has several upcoming features including Welcome to the Rileys opposite Kristen Stewart, The Las Kiddie Ridewith Famke Janssen and Mint Julep.

Robbins is currently shooting Martin Campbell’s Green Lantern with Ryan Reynolds. Filming for Cinema Verite is slated for this summer in Los Angeles.

How do you feel about the plot behind Cinema Verite? Does adding Robbins and Gandolfini make you want to see it more?
