After noticing that Evangeline Lilly was barely present in last night’s episode of “Lost” its good to see her in the news this morning. Since her hit show has wrapped she’s been looking for a new gig and she’s found one. According to Variety, Lilly along with The Hurt Locker co-star Anthony Mackie have joined the cast of Real Steel.
Real Steel will be directed by Shawn Levy and stars Hugh Jackman as an ex-fighter who becomes a promoter when human boxing is outlawed for being too violent. People are replaced with massive robots with human characteristics that compete in gladiator style fights. Jackman’s character discovers a discarded robot that he thinks can be the new champion around the same time he finds out he’s the father of a 13 year old boy (Dakota Goyo).
Lilly will play one of Jackman’s friends, while Mackie will star as another boxing promoter. The film is produced by DreamWorks, Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis just to name a few. The story is based on a segment from “The Twilight Zone” which originally starred Lee Marvin.
When the premise for Real Steel was first revealed we thought it sounded like a joke. It has a campy 1980′s space-case vibe to it that can either be a hit or miss for today’s audiences but as the cast continues to grow we’re starting to get interested.
What do you think of Evangeline Lilly and Anthony Mackie joining Real Steel?
