After learning that Matthew Vaughn had been hired to direct Fox’s adaptation of X-Men First Class we should have known that his number one screenwriter wouldn’t be too far behind. Kick-Ass scribe Jane Goldman is rewriting the script for the film that was originally penned by Jamie Moss based on a treatment by Bryan Singer.
Goldman’s husband popular British radio and talk show host Jonathan Ross recently revealed via Twitter that his “wife is away writing X Men 4.” He later went on to clarify that he was referring to First Class as X4 and not another sequel in the original franchise.
“Also, for those who need to know, my wife IS currently writing X men First Class. It’s just referred to as X men 4 around the house…”
Once the cat was out of the bag he got a lot of inquires about the film and decided to clear the air regarding what he does or doesn’t know.
“I am afraid I better not answer any more queries re ‘X Men: First Class’ for fear of spoilers and also possible divorce.”
Ross shouldn’t be too hard on himself because we all had a hunch that Vaughn and Goldman would make movie magic together again. They previously worked on Stardust and the upcoming thriller The Debt with Sam Worthington. If Goldman can be half as true to this comic as she was to Kick-Ass we’re in good hands.
X-Men First Class opens in theaters nationwide on June 3, 2011.
