The first photo of Peter Sarsgaard as villain Hector Hammond in Green Lantern has popped up online. The actor appears in a paparazzi photo that was taken onset between set ups. He’s wearing regular clothes but from the neck up he’s unrecognizable due to heavy prosthetics and a wig. Take a look…

In Green Lantern Sarsgaard will play Hammond, a pathologist and son of a senator who is seen as a disappointment in his father’s (Tim Robbins) eyes. He becomes infused with psychic powers when he discovers a meteor. These new “powers” have quite the effect on the good doctor causing his appearance to change dramatically.

There are several movie characters that run through our minds when we look at this picture. The first is John Hurt in The Elephant Man. He looks like a spitting image of Mr. Merrick from the 1980 movie with the forehead and all. We also see a little bit of Eric Stoltz from the 1985 film Mask in there. The Green Lantern is directed by Martin Campbell and is scheduled for release on June 17, 2011.

What do you think of the first photo of Peter Sarsgaard in character as Hector Hammond? Is this a good adaptation of the character’s look?
