For the first time in a long we found ourselves laughing out loud at every sketch during “Saturday Night Live.” It’s no secret that over the past few years the show has been in the crapper with only a few spikes here and there. But when Betty White took on hosting duties not only did she bring her A-game but she brought veterans Ana Gasteyer, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, Rachel Dratch, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler with her!
When all of these funny ladies hit the stage it made us realize one thing — the current roster for SNL is very weak! Those ladies out shined everybody. There were a lot of cast members who didn’t even appear in skits during the episode but we didn’t notice because we were too busy laughing.
White let the youngsters know how live TV is supposed to be done. At the tender age of 88 she memorized most of her lines and knew how to read the cue cards without it looking obvious. Like she said in her opening monologue she’s been doing this since the 1950s.
One of the few complaints people had about the episode was White’s vulgar material. Some felt that all her jokes were written too crass for a legend of her stature. To those people we say, go look at some of her earlier work. Her entire career has ALWAYS tread the line of vulgarity. She’s a true comedienne who doesn’t take herself too seriously. Over time she hasn’t lost her lively spirit so get off her back! The producers and writers couldn’t make her do anything she didn’t want to. White knows the game.
Here’s our favorite skit of the night starting with the “Scared Straight” program and ending with “The Wizard of Ass!!!”
Vote in our poll and let us know what you thought of Betty White on SNL…
This was some of the best booking SNL has ever done and it wasn’t even their idea. The FANS brought White to the show and thanks to them the series had one of its strongest weeks ever!
How did you vote? Was Betty great or have you seen better?
