Director and writer Quentin Tarantino is coming off one of the best years of his career and after racking up several SAG Awards, Oscar nominations, and Golden Globe nods he’s headed to Venice. And no it won’t be for a vacation, Tarantino’s got serious work to do now that he’s been named the “Chair Juror” at this year’s Venice Film Festival.
According to AP, he’ll head the jury that will be responsible for handing out the prestigious Golden Lion Award to various filmmakers and actors. When the Festival director announced Tarantino’s position he described him as “one of the major creative figures in contemporary cinema.”
One of the organizers went on to say, “he is perhaps the only American auteur to be adored worldwide like a rock star.”
It sounds like they love Quentin Tarantino over in Italy. Even though his work speaks for itself with Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and most recently Inglourious Basterds, he’s also known for his ability to launch and relaunch acting careers. He did it with John Travolta and now he’s trying to do it for Lindsay Lohan.
The Venice Film Festival will run from September 1-10, 2010.
What do you think of Quentin Tarantino being named the head juror at the Venice Film Festival? Do you think he was the right choice?
