We guess Comedy Central didn’t get enough bad press from their infamous “South Park” Muhammad episode because the network is taking on more religious satire. According to THR, they’ve picked up a new animated series entitled “JC” that centers on, you guessed it Jesus Christ. Christian conservatives will start attacking in 5,4,3,2,…
“JC” will be a half-hour show about Christ and his attempt to “escape the shadow of his powerful but apathetic father and live a regular life in New York.” We find this series choice interesting considering all the flack they got for mocking Islam in the past. This kind of solidifies how every subject is fair game when it comes to comedy. The network’s head of programming had this to say about their decision to take on “JC”,
“In general, comedy in its purest form always makes some people uncomfortable. For me, the guiding principle is finding the strongest comedy voices,” he said.
Christ seems to be the butt of a lot of jokes so we’re not surprised that he’s getting his own show. But the series’ success depends on who they get to write it because if the it’s filled with rejected “South Park” material count us out. We want something different and original.
