Jimmy Fallon is about to take his awkward comedic shtick from late night to primetime as the host of the 2010 Emmys. According to the LA Times, the former SNL star has landed the coveted gig beating out Amy Poehler, Andy Samberg, and that damn multi-talented Justin Timberlake. Didn’t he already host the ESPYS?

This year’s Emmys will air August 29th on NBC, which explains the network’s decision to have one of their own host the ceremony. The big favorite over the past decade has been Conan O’Brien who took the stage in 2002 and 2006 but due to obvious reasons couldn’t return. Parks and Recreation star Amy Poehler was thought of as a possible candidate but her pregnancy got in the way (she’s due in August). Thanks a lot baby!

The TV Academy also considered Timberlake and Samberg as a one-two punch because of their on screen chemistry and their prior Emmy wins (yep, they got a trophy for “D*ck in a Box”). Fallon has never won or even been nominated for the award, so he has a lot to prove.

Even though it’s been 4 years since O’Brien last hosted, his opening skit featuring “Lost,” “The Office,” and “24” still tickles our funny bone. How can Fallon top that?

Do you think Jimmy Fallon is the right choice to host the Emmy Awards? Who should they have chosen?
