Earlier today we posted our list of the most anticipated summer movies of 2010 and Inception landed in the top spot. Not only does the film have an A-list cast and director but it’s plot has been one of the best kept secrets in Hollywood. Now Warner Bros has finally decided to release the film’s official synopsis filling us in on what the movie’s all about.

After the trailer for Inception was released we were bombarded with images of flooded cities, crumbling buildings, and a whole lot of secrecy. For some odd reason Leonardo DiCaprio and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were bouncing off walls (literally) and Ken Watanabe was trying to drown someone in a tub. These outlandish scenes only cemented our confusion regarding the film’s story.

So without further ado check out the plot synopsis below…

Dom Cobb (DiCaprio) is a skilled thief, the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb’s rare ability has made him a coveted player in this treacherous new world of corporate espionage, but it has also made him an international fugitive and cost him everything he has ever loved. Now Cobb is being offered a chance at redemption.

One last job could give him his life back but only if he can accomplish the impossible—inception. Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse: their task is not to steal an idea but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming. This summer, your mind is the scene of the crime.

Oh snap! Christopher Nolan has done it again. We now know that DiCaprio’s a super-thief and Levitt is a part of his team but how does Ellen Page’s character fit into all of this? What about Cillian Murphy? Even though they’ve given us several answers a few questions still remain.

What are your theories about Inception?
