SECRETARIAT TRAILER: The first trailer for Diane Lane and John Malkovich’s upcoming film Secretariat has been released and it features horse races, hideous wigs, and plenty of ugly hats. The film is produced by Walt Disney Pictures and is directed by Randall Wallace, the amazing screenwriter behind Mel Gibson’s Oscar winning epic, Braveheart. Check out the trailer…

In the film, Lane plays Penny Tweedy, a housewife who pushes her horse (Secretariat) to become the greatest in the sport. Dylan Walsh co-stars as her husband, a lawyer who’d prefer for her to stay home as opposed to competing, while Malkovich plays a charismatic trainer who underestimates the power of Secretariat. Scott Glenn is also on board as a southern-bred aristocrat who loses the horse in a coin toss.

In 1973, Secretariat became the first racehorse to win the U.S. Triple Crown after a 25 year gap. He went on to break and set several world records, and became a national treasure in the U.S. Unfortunately, through all of his success, he died at the age of 19 when he was euthanized due to a hoof infection that showed no signs of getting better.

Secretariat is scheduled for release on October 8th, 2010.
