What would happen if Michael Scott really left Dunder Mifflin? Would you continue to watch “The Office?” No die hard fan wants to be put in that position but it’s a possibility that might happen. Scott’s portrayer, Steve Carell recently sat down for an interview with BBC radio and discussed his future on the NBC comedy and it seems uncertain…
While overseas promoting his latest film Date Night (along with Tina Fey), Carell’s “Office” contract came up in conversation and he revealed that he’s not legally obligated to continue on with the show after next season.
Interviewer: How long will you stay with ‘The Office’ for? How many more series? How long does your contract run?
Carell: Contract through next season.
Interviewer: And will you stay after that?
Carell: I don’t think so. I think that will probably be my last year.
We’re not sure if he was joking or dead serious but either way if “The Office” is canceled after next season it wouldn’t be the end of the world. It would go out with decent ratings and a huge fan following. If he does leave and the network decides to keep the show on without him, it could turn into one of those “Spin City” situations. Remember what happened when Michael J. Fox left and they replaced him with Charlie Sheen? Everything went to sh*t!
There’s only one Michael Scott on that show and his name is Steve Carell. If he leaves, the show needs to end because there’s nothing worse than a series that outstays its welcome (we’re talking to you “One Tree Hill“). You can listen to Carell’s BBC audio if you want to hear more.
Would you watch The Office if Carell left? Do you think NBC would cancel the show?
