After a monumental week on DVD, we’re back to the typical late-spring swoon with only one film of note – It’s Complicated – hitting shelves today. Joining it in the home entertainment realm is the last film from the late Heath Ledger (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus) and a few TV series that you might be hearing about for the first time.

Check it all out below…

It’s Complicated

This was a weird movie because all the hype around it seemed to be much greater than the actual film itself.

This was the original pairing that gave us Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin as Oscar hosts. Clearly, the show’s producers saw the poster for this movie and thought, “Hey, that’s not a bad idea” and suddenly there were Steve & Alec at the Kodak Theater yukking it up.

This was also another big movie for Meryl Streep. It was the one that got virtually ignored around Oscar season as everyone fawned over Julie & Julia. It was almost as though she didn’t have a movie out at that time – that’s how much the conversation was dominated by her August release. I wager she did far more interviews and spoke much more about her role as Child in the days surrounding the release of It’s Complicated than she did her current film.

It’s almost as if the synergy backfired on this one: The stars’ outside appearances overwhelmed the project to the point that the movie itself seemed like a side act rather than the other way around.

You probably missed this one in the theaters but now you can buy it on DVD and see why we got so much Meryl, Martin and Alec around the holidays.
