If you are one of the die hard fans who stood by the little engine that could known as “Southland” we’ve got some good news to report. The former NBC drama has been renewed for a third season and will continue to air on the TNT cable network. We personally know a few people who will be more than thrilled that the series will stay on the small screen for a little while longer.
TNT sent out a press release earlier today announcing the big news that they’ve picked up 10 new episodes of the show scheduled to start airing in January 2011. According to Michael Wright, executive vice president and head of programming for TNT,
“‘Southland’ is a challenging, visceral show that engages viewers with its immersive style, provocative storylines and complex characters. These qualities have made ‘Southland’ a favorite among critics and appointment viewing for an extremely loyal audience.”
The cast also includes a boatload of name talent like Regina King, Kevin Alejandro, Arija Bareikis, Clifton Collins Jr., Michael Cudlitz, Shawn Hatosy, Michael McGrady, Ben McKenzie and Tom Everett Scott. If you’re not familiar with the show’s history, it originally aired on NBC and even though it was a critical success and had steady ratings it was cancelled. After being off the air for several months TNT decided to pick up its remaining episodes and the following season. The rest is television history.
Thanks TNT, you really do know good drama!
