Has film and Broadway legend Mel Brooks been offered a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the past? If so did he refuse it because that’s the only logical reason that could explain why the 83 year old is just now receiving the honor. Last Friday, the actor, writer, producer, and director was on hand to see his name cemented in Hollywood history alongside some of the greatest entertainers of all time. Check out the ceremony below…
Brooks received the 2,406th star, which was placed directly in front of the Egyptian Theatre on Hollywood Blvd. During the ceremony he was joined by collaborator and friend Carl Reiner, along with his son Max and a crowd full of fans who consistently cheered him on. Brooks’ career is nothing but a long list of awards, honors, and accolades from various forms of film, television, and theatre. He’s a comedian at heart, a song and dance man, an overall entertainer.
He was the mind behind such classics as Blazing Saddles, The Producers, Young Frankenstein, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Silent Movie, and the Star Wars satire, Spaceballs. Throughout his career he’s won Tony, Emmy, Oscar, and Grammy Awards for his various projects and the fact that he’s just now getting a star doesn’t seem right.
A few weeks back Russell Crowe was given the same honor and revealed that he had been offered a star in the past but didn’t feel as if he deserved it at the time. We’re hoping that’s what happened to Brooks, because how much acclaim do you need to earn one of those things? Why did he have to wait over forty years to get a piece of that sidewalk?
Are you surprised that Mel Brooks has only now just received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?
