We thought Cary Elwes was done with the Saw series after his stint in the first film that established the ongoing franchise. He’s decided to return for the seventh and hopefully the final installment that will be in 3D (rolls eyes). The studio (Lionsgate) has sent out an official press release with the plot synopsis and the full cast list, which reveals Elwes return as Dr. Lawrence Gordon.

The cast for the film will be a mix of old and new faces led by the good doctor who will be accompanied by Costas Mandylor, Betsy Russell, Sean Patrick Flanery (Boondock Saints), Gina Holden, Chad Donella, Laurence Anthony, Dean Armstrong, Naomi Snieckus, and somehow, someway Tobin Bell! How is Jigsaw still an active part of this series? That man brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “from beyond the grave.”

In terms of the story this is what we can expect from Saw the seventh time around…

As a deadly battle rages over Jigsaw’s brutal legacy, a group of Jigsaw survivors gathers to seek the support of self-help guru and fellow survivor Bobby Dagen, a man whose own dark secrets unleash a new wave of terror…

Sigh. Not the least bit interested in Jigsaw, his legacy, the survivors or anything else described in the previous sentence. The studio also makes it a point to advertise the “cutting-edge SI-3D digital camera system,” that will be used to shoot the film but do you know what we’re interested in? How about a good script? Something that’s not one note and actually has a decent story to tell. Now that would be groundbreaking.

What do you think of Elwes returning for Saw VII? Can you explain to us how Jigsaw is STILL active in this franchise?
