The fallout from MGM’s money problems continue to wreak havoc on its properties with James Bond being the first major casualty. The long running Ian Fleming series has finally hit a brick wall it can’t break through. Months ago there were rumors that Bond 23′s future was uncertain and now that speculation has come to fruition.
According to ComingSoon, Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of EON Productions have suspended production on the next film that was set for release in 2011/2012.
“Due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM and the failure to close a sale of the studio, we have suspended development on ‘Bond 23′ indefinitely. We do not know when development will resume and do not have a date for the release of ‘Bond 23,’” stated Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli jointly.
Damn! Damn! Damn! We knew this would happen. Everyone kept trying to keep hope alive but they were stalling. They were waiting to see if MGM would get a new owner but since that has yet to happen they’re pulling the plug on the movie all together. I hope Peter Jackson and his folks don’t feel the urge to do the same thing since The Hobbit is also under the studio. The last time we checked they were waiting for script and budget approval but who knows how long that’s going to take.
Until we hear further word from EON Productions about a Bond revival, lets pour out a little liquor for our fallen friend.
What do you think about EON pulling the plug on Bond?
