What type of world do we live in where Samuel L. Jackson would willingly appear in a movie opposite the jock vampire from Twilight? According to THR, the veteran actor will be joined by Kellan Lutz in the upcoming indie action flick Deathgames. It’s a Motion Picture Corporation of America production that will mark the directorial debut of Jonah Loop.
Deathgames centers on a young man (Lutz) who is kidnapped and forced into the savage world of a modern gladiator arena, where men fight to the death for entertainment of the online masses. Jackson orchestrates the games, overseeing them from his computer lair with the help of twin ladies who see to his every desire. Is it just me or does this movie sound like the bastard spawn of Gladiator and Gamer?
This fight to the death format will work great for Lutz because it gives him the perfect excuse to appear shirtless on screen. Everyone knows that wearing clothes just gives your opponent something to grab on to. As for Jackson, he can obviously play any part that’s given to him but this sounds kind of campy.
Besides the little info we got from the plot description his character sounds like a caricature of a bad guy. It brings back visions of Wesley Snipes‘ overacting and bad dye job in Demolition Man or better yet Jackson in the 2008 film, Jumper. Dammit, we’ve been down this road before!
What do you think of Samuel L. Jackson co-starring with Kellan Lutz in Deathgames? What do you think of the plot?
