Do you remember watching Mighty Mouse on Saturday Morning Cartoons? The buffed up rodent who looked like he ate steroids for breakfast, lunch, and dinner is gearing up for a reboot and it’s all thanks to Alvin and The Chipmunks. The 20th Century Fox live action/CGI films made so much money that Paramount wants a piece of the pie. Get ready for Mighty Mouse: The Movie!

Mighty Mouse has been in development for years over at Paramount and Nickelodeon Movies and they’re finally ready to put it on the fast track. They’re currently on the lookout for a writer and director to shape the story that will be based on the original premise of a crime fighting super mouse. Mighty Mouse originated as a vintage cartoon under the TerryToon banner and it ran from the 1950′s to the 1980′s.

The biggest obstacle the creative team will face with this film is modernizing the character for this generation. In the beginning, Mighty Mouse was supposed to be a parody of the then very popular Superman. These days, Marvel rules the superhero genre with characters like Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America, which means Paramount will have to give him a more post-modern attitude and look.

Is this movie a good idea? I think not. Nothing against the character but this sounds similar to what they tried to do with Underdog. Did that movie ever come out? Oh yeah, it did back in 2007 when it bombed terribly (43 million domestic box office). Every movie can’t be as successful has those cheery Chipmunks.
