Apparently, we were wrong last night about Olivia Wilde joining the cast of Butter, as of today The Weinstein Company has released an official press release announcing that Alicia Silverstone will be joining Jennifer Garner and the rest of the cast along with Hugh Jackman. Although they haven’t stated what roles either of the two new actors will be playing, it sounds like Wilde’s out and Silverstone is in, which is frankly rather odd…

It’s not that I don’t appreciate some of the work Silverstone has done it the past, but it’s been a while since we’ve see her on the big screen and Wilde is hot at the moment with Tron right around the corner and a hit TV show.

That being said, well done Silverstone! This may mark her return to stardom. She was also recently cast in writer Amy Heckerling’s upcoming romantic horror-comedy Vamps alongside Sigourney Weaver. Heckerling was the writer-director of Clueless and it seems like she picks favorites when it comes to who performs her work! The film Vamps is a modern-day story about a group beautiful young vampires who are living the good nightlife in New York — I’m wary, but it could be interesting!

As for Jackman it will be nice to see him return on the big screen after his role on Broadway and NOT do an action film. It’s nice to see him get a chance to just act.

According to the press release…

BUTTER is a comedy set in the Midwest U.S., where an adopted girl discovers her talent for butter carving and finds herself pitted against an ambitious local woman (Garner) in their town’s annual contest. BUTTER was written by Jason Micallef and will be directed by Jim Fields Smith. The film is set to start production later this month.

What do you think of Silverstone and Jackman joining the cast?

I am just a little disappointed that Hugh will be supposedly "praying" to God after a certain scene in the movie. I know it's in the script, but I think they could cut that part, or at least change it. I don't think that will be a funny part of the movie at all. And for that reason, this will probably be the first movie Hugh has been in that I won't go see or buy when it comes out on DVD. I can do without "raunchy". I guess you could call it a personal choice, plus I think Hugh has more class than that. He doesn't have to demean himself in that manner, and I think it's a shame. I think of him as a decent, human being and a wonderfully refreshing leading man. We haven't had a really good leading man like him for a long time.

I didn't mean that praying is demeaning. I meant praying after a certain scene is demeaning and in my humble opionion, disrespectful to God. I know that Hugh Jackman plays the script as written, but, again, in my humble opinion, I think that part could be cut. I've seen Hugh in ALL of his movies, and yes, he is a brilliant actor. He can play any part and make it believable. I think Australia has been my favorite so far. I am very, very surprised Australia didn't take any awards here in the U.S. I look forward to watching more of his movies in th future.

P.S. I don't think he, or anyone else, needs to carry their private parts on their chin to get a laugh either. Guess this will be another one of his movies I won't see or buy. I just can't fathom the idea of Hugh degrading himself in that manner.
