Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film Inception has left most of us dazed and confused, which is amazing considering it hasn’t been released yet. We’ve only seen trailers and a couple of crazy posters and none of them give us a clear idea as to what the movie’s about. The director recently gave an interview with the LA Times that featured some interesting quotes as well as a few new photos to give us a better understanding of his vision.

Nolan was engaged in a conversation regarding the slew of “second life” movies that have flooded the market. Films such as Avatar, Surrogates, and the upcoming Tron Legacy all feature characters living out lives or fantasies separate from their reality. He claims that Inception does have several mind-melding scenarios but nothing on that level. He draws more inspiration from a movie like the 1999 sci-fi hit The Matrix as opposed to those three.

“I think ours is of an older school, ours is more of The Matrix variety and the concepts of different levels of reality,” Nolan said. “The whole concept of avatars and living life as someone else, there’s a relationship to what we’re doing, but I think when I first started trying to make this film happen it was very much pulled from that era of movies where you had The Matrix, you had Dark City, you had The Thirteenth Floor and, to a certain extent, you had ‘Memento’ too. They were based in the principles that the world around you might not be real.”

He mentioned three amazing films as predecessors of what he’s created with Inception and that makes us even more curious. Unfortunately, we have to wait until this summer when the film is released on July 16th to get any real answers. Can you hold out that long because we can’t!

Until then check out these new photos that were also featured in the article…
