Tron Legacy does not come out until December 17th but Disney has started talking about the sequel. According to Hollywood Reporter, writers/executive producers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horrowitz have begun writing a sequel to the studio’s sci-fi action adventure, starring Garrett Hedlund, Jeff Bridges (who reprises his role of Kevin Flynn), and Michael Teigen.
What happens if Tron Legacy does not do as good as is expected (aside from it’s guaranteed opening weekend)? What if people don’t want a sequel (fat chance but it is possible)? And more importantly what will the sequel focus on? No details have been released because it is so early in the process. No deals have been made with Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski or cast members to return. Disney must be waiting to see which direction they should go, in case the film doesn’t bring in the money it anticipates it will.
In case you have been living under a cave and don’t know what the film is about, here is the premise… Sam Flynn (Hedlund), the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (Bridges), looks into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce Programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years.
Disney is getting ahead of itself, but they seem to have full faith in their product. Let’s just hope they are right.
What do you think of Tron Legacy? Are you counting the days until it comes out?
