Were you a fan of the Christmas themed romantic-dramedy Love, Actually? Do you remember the man who was head over heels in love with Keira Knightley’s character and used cue cards to express his feelings? You do? OK, good because that guy’s name is Andrew Lincoln and he just landed the lead role in AMC’s new series entitled, “The Walking Dead.”
According to THR, the British actor will play the coveted role of Rick Grimes, a small-town cop who leads a group of survivors in their struggle against a world besieged by zombies. He’ll join the previously cast Jon Bernthal who’ll play Shane, a survivor who was Rick’s police partner before the zombie disaster. “The Walking Dead” will be written, directed, and produced by Frank Darabont and the casting is still ongoing.
AMC has already acquired 6 episodes of the series with the first one expected to debut in October during the network’s annual Fearfest. If you’re a bit skeptical about the casting of Lincoln as Rick Grimes you shouldn’t be, he has the Robert Kirkman seal of approval. Kirkman is the author who wrote the comic series from which the show is based and he’s ecstatic about the actor getting hired for the part.
“Andrew Lincoln, wow — what an amazing find this guy is. Writing Rick Grimes month after month in the comic series, I had no idea he was an actual living breathing human being, and yet here he is. I couldn’t be more thrilled with how this show is coming together.”
Production on “The Walking Dead” is scheduled to begin in June in Atlanta, Georgia.
