After playing a morbidly obese and illiterate teenager who suffers physical, sexual, and emotional abuse at the hands of her parents and gives birth to two children who are the products of incest, Precious actress Gabourey Sidibe is now in talks to plumb into even darker, more disturbing depths of the human psyche. According to EW, the actress is in negotiations to host an upcoming episode of “Saturday Night Live.”
The actress is also set to star in a late-summer Showtime television program entitled “The Big C,” which as she claimed in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, aims at “making cancer funny.” Between yukking it up with a television show that hasn’t been funny in at least a decade and tickling the ribs of cancer hilarity, Sidibe seems like an actress unafraid to tackle difficult projects—not to mention completely unfunny ones.
However, I’d rather giggle away to a Showtime comedy about cancer any day of the week than subject myself to a Saturday night of Lorne Michaels’ long-running (and suffering) sketch comedy show, no matter how charming red carpet talking heads claim Sidibe to be. This will at least give Howard Stern more material to infuriate Sidibe diehards, with which should be somewhat as entertaining as the last SNL.
What do you think of Sidibe hosting SNL?
