Michael Douglas and Jesse Eisenberg star in Brian Koppelman and David Levien’s new film, Solitary Man. Douglas plays a former car dealership mogul dealing with a string of business problems. But his real issues are at home in his personal life. A man unable to commit to his family because of his desire for relationships with women, lots of women. What better ”mature” actor to play a playboy than Douglas? The man is talented and has definitely had his days as a playboy (and still isn’t looking too bad).
Although the plot seems a little weak, the film received positive feedback at the 2009 Toronto Film Festival where it premiered. The film also stars big names such as Susan Sarandon, Mary-Louise Parker and Danny DeVito. There was no shortage of talent on this film but is there enough storyline to keep an audience captivated from beginning to end? We’re going to have to wait to find out but I am holding my breath for directors Koppelman/Levien to come through. They did write the screenplays for Rounders, Runaway Jury and directed Knockaround Guys.

What do you think? Do you buy Douglas as a playboy?
