Before Eclipse hits theaters this summer, a Twilight novella will hit bookstore shelves to cushion the blow. EW reports that Stephenie Meyer – the brains behind the vampire-werewolf phenomenon will publish The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner, a 192-page novella centered on a newborn vampire introduced in Eclipse.

Bree Tanner will focus on the newborn child of vampire-villain Victoria as an army is prepared to close in on Bella and the Cullens. The book is scheduled for release on June 5th, just three weeks before Eclipse hits theaters. The book will also be available free of charge via from June 7th to July 5th, but after that your going to have to buy a copy like everyone else.

One good thing to come out of this Twilight glut is Meyer’s decision to donate some of the proceeds to the American Red Cross International Response to help relief efforts in Haiti, Chile, and other countries.

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner was suppose to be included in The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide, but Meyer’s publisher thought it would be best if the book was released solo. Plus, Meyer’s had the idea to publish it before fans saw movie. She stated, “I was thinking a lot about the newborns, imagining their side of the story, and one thing led to another.”

The Eclipse crew (screenwriter, director, and some actors included) all read Bree Turner prior to filming the move. So on top of the other Twilight books they had to throw this one onto the pile. How exciting (rolls eyes).
