New Iron Man 2 Poster Gives Mickey Rourke The Shaft
By Krystal Clark
Last week we saw the new international one sheet for Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2 and today the domestic version has been released. The main problem I had with the previous version was the absence of one of the most talented actors and interesting characters from the film. In the U.S. poster, that issue has doubled because now two actors are missing. What’s this all about? See if you notice the missing links…
Iron Man 2 marks the return of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, the narcissistic hero of the new millennium and his trusted assistant Virginia ‘Pepper’ Potts played by Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow. Some of the new faces include Don Cheadle who replaces Terrence Howard as James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes aka War Machine, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, and the bad guys Mickey Rourke who plays Whiplash and Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer.
On the international poster Rourke is featured in photo form and as a text credit, yet Rockwell is nowhere to be found. Now, with the domestic version Rourke’s image is missing but his name is still credited in big bold letters. I take it that this poster is geared more towards the good guys, but it’s a shame that someone as talented as Rockwell doesn’t get his moment to shine. His role might not be as huge as everyone else’s but besides Downey, I bet you he walks away with some of the best lines in the movie.
Iron Man 2 debuts in theaters nationwide on May 7th.
