Just when you thought George A. Romero couldn’t add anything to his long running “Dead” franchise he surprises us with Survival of the Dead. It’s the latest installment in the zombie series and its restricted trailer has just debuted online. It’s red band so prepare to see plenty of gore, screams, and blood. In other words, it’s everything you could ask for in a Romero film!

The exclusive trailer premiered over on IGN, and it features an introduction by George A. Romero himself. It’s kind of creepy that he’s surrounded by zombies while doing it but if you’ve been working with them for over 40 years it must become second nature. Survival of the Dead is set on an island off the coast of North America, where local residents are stuck fighting a zombie epidemic while hoping for a cure to return their un-dead relatives back to their human state.

The cast featured in the film aren’t particularly well known, and overall the production value looks sort of “campy” even by Romero’s standards. As a fan of his earlier work, I have to admit I haven’t stayed on board with his constant reiterations within the franchise. I left at 2005′s Land of the Dead, so I’m 5 years off with this one.
